Our client is a leader in the Meat Processing / food manufacturing industry in Michigan, and they are currently looking for a Director of Quality Assurance, who is skilled at the management of day to day operations and planning of the quality and food safety of the plant, as well as supervising the needs of a fast paced and busy meat processing plant.

They are looking for a hands-on leader; a strategic thinker, who leads by practical example. This individual must come from a meat processing background, and have want to actively educate, coach and develop plant personnel so that food handling practices, plant sanitation and product safety is maintained at a high level. This role reports to the COO, and is a key member of the plant management staff, working closely with Production and maintenance in order to maintain a high level of achievement in Safety, Sanitation, Quality and Efficiency.

The Director of Quality Assurance is a key position within the company, and will be responsible and accountable for all auditing, training, documentation, policy implementation and adherence and scheduling of the Quality Team.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Review and implement processes as they pertain to plant Quality Assurance and the Food safety program, including organising and leading Monthly Facility Audits and annual food security Audit with the Production Manager and Maintenance Manager.

The QA Manager is responsible for reporting all Food Safety, Quality, and Sanitation issues, maintaining programs, policies and procedures that ensure regulatory compliance with federal, state and local government agencies.

Develop, implement, maintain, and continuously improve all GMP, HACCP, BRC Food Safety, Quality Management, and sanitation programs in accordance with corporate policy requirements and best industry practices.

Manage and train the team in order to ensure effective and accurate testing, reporting, and verification of monitoring of raw material and finished product quality.

Maintain, develop and coordinate all onsite training programs, and implement training schedules for all plant team members including production personnel, QA staff, and sanitation staff.

Manage a team of 5 QA Professionals as well as up to 10 Sanitation professionals

Point of contact for all internal and external audits

Develop budgets or approve expenditures for supplies, materials, or human resources, ensuring that materials, labor, or equipment are used efficiently to meet production targets.

KEY REQUIREMENTS:

7+ years QA Management within a meat processing facility required, preferably with experience with ground beef

Bachelor degree in either food safety of biochemistry

Lean manufacturing/ six sigma an asset

Meat processing experience is a must

Knowledge of USDA, SQF and BRC

Preference given to candidates coming from a large meat processing organization

HACCP Certified
